In a video recorded by Healio at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Richard Iorio, MD, FAAOS, Brigham & Women’s chief of adult reconstruction and vice chair of clinical effectiveness, spoke about the evolution of physical therapy after total joint replacement.
While some knee patients will still require traditional outpatient physical therapy, “In this day and age, outpatient physical therapy isn’t absolutely necessary for all patients,” Dr. Iorio noted. “For the vast majority of patients, their needs can be serviced in-home on an app, or even with an analog program that they can administer themselves,” he said.
